Datalight WinLight* Embedded Operating System

Datalight* WinLight* is a new graphical, multitasking, protected mode operating system for embedded platforms. An MS Windows* 3.1 work-alike, it is able to run vertical market Windows programs without requiring recompiling or any other modification. Supporting a subset of Windows APIs, it only provides those features and functions that are needed in an embedded environment. Plus WinLight is much smaller and less expensive.
Windows, buttons, dialog boxes, and graphical displays are all easy for a WinLight application to create and manipulate. In addition, multiple applications can be run at once and individual applications can be written to focus on just one function. Protected Mode allows applications to directly access several megabytes of memory, cleanly breaking the infamous "640k DOS limit".
WinLight reduces time to market through the use of experienced Windows programmers, standard Windows development tools, and in some cases can even use existing Windows applications. Other embedded environments rely on proprietary tools and require developers to learn a whole new API.
WinLight, available in September 1996, has a very low cost royalty structure. A full WinLight Software Developer¦s Kit includes a coupon for ten free licenses and costs only $595 (US).
